This module runs in Semester 1. Lectures are 16.10-17.00 on Tuesdays and Fridays, in Appleton Tower 4.12. First lecture: Tuesday 20th September 2011. Lectures will be given during the first five weeks of Semester 1, and the slots used for student presentations thereafter. All lectures will be given by Alan Bundy, except where otherwise noted below.
Tuesday 27 September: Software Engineering Guest lecture by Charles Sutton on the appropriate software engineering techniques for Informatics research (slides plus background reading plus lecture video). Also, Perdita Steven's slides and lecture video from her guest lecture in previous years.
Friday 30 September: The Need for Hypotheses in Informatics Research (slides in pdf plus lecture notes plus podcast). Notice that audio starts on the podcast about a minute into the video. Only admin remarks are lost.
Tuesday 11 October: Cognitive Science. Guest lecture by Jon Oberlander (slides in pdf).
The remaining slots will be used for student presentations, starting on Friday of week 5. The timetable for this will be decided during the first half of the module.Alan Bundy
