Introduction to Java Programming 2010–2011 — NetBeans

You only need to do this if you want to use NetBeans, a professional IDE (Integrated Development Environment), instead of BlueJ for your second assignment. Using NetBeans is optional: you can use BlueJ for your second assignment if you want.

NetBeans 6.7 is installed on DICE. Open the Applications menu (in the top-left corner of the screen) and go to Programming then click on netbeans6 or run netbeans-6.7 in a terminal:

In NetBeans:

  1. Go to Tools -> Plugins and wait while it gets the list of plugins.
  2. At this point if you can see updates, you may wish to click on the Update button and install the updates — you may then need to restart NetBeans and then install even more updates…
  3. Click on the Available Plugins tab.
  4. Tick the BlueJ Project Support plugin.
  5. Click Install:

  6. You'll need to click through a few licence acceptance and Next buttons.

From now on, you should be able to open BlueJ projects using NetBeans' File -> Open Project… menu option. To learn more about the NetBeans BlueJ plugin, follow these links:
