Introduction to Java Programming 2010–2011 — Other Resources

A directory of all Informatics computing labs, including information about their availability.

Sun/Oracle's Java API documentation is a crucial resource to have at hand when programming. You should bookmark the page and will need to learn how to read and navigate it. Refer to the API documentation whenever you need to look up something about the Java standard library classes.

Sun/Oracle's Java tutorials are another excellent resource to refer to, to complement the BlueJ book.

Sun/Oracle's Code Conventions for Java are worth a read: they are a guide to Java programming style. Good style will make your code easier to read and understand — both for yourself and others.

Although not a mandatory course text, Java in a Nutshell is a great quick reference book for Java that should complement the BlueJ book quite well. This is not a book for beginners to learn Java from, but similar to the Java API documentation it is a good resource to have at hand so that you can quickly look things up when you're programming. The latest is the 5th edition which covers Java 5 (which is not much different from Java 6). The library has two copies of the 5th edition and lots of copies of older editions.

The BlueJ site has some useful pages, including:
