Introduction to Java Programming 2010–2011 — Course Overview

These are the web pages for the 2010 iteration of Introduction to Java Programming; dates are likely to be inaccurate, links may not work, and other changes may be made in the latest iteration of the course.

Welcome to IJP. For an idea of course content, please explore these web pages, read the course descriptor or have a look at the Informatics course introductory videos page (IJP introduction in MPEG-4 (.mp4) format; IJP introduction in Windows Media Video (.wmv) format).

The course is taught in semester one, beginning with an introductory lecture on Wednesday 22 September, 15:00–15:50, in AT Lecture Theatre 3.

Because programming is a practical exercise, there are no lectures (after the introductory lecture) and no exam for IJP. Instead you learn from a textbook and accompanying screencasts and you attend labs (the course schedule identifies what material is covered each week, and provides links to lists of textbook exercises to try).

Don't forget to check the IJP news page for the latest updates about the course.

As you start the course you should work through all of the steps identified in the “Getting started” page.

Some material from past iterations of the course is still online:
