Tools

• Hot Leakage The tool primarily used in this course for modeling and evaluating the power/performance of a processor. It extends the following 3 tools.
• Wattch Commonly used tool for estimating the dynamic power consumption of a processor. It is based on the following two tools.
  Paper describing Wattch
• SimpleScalar Suite of simulators for processors. For the course, we use the cycle-level simulator only. Note that we use version 2 because this is what Wattch and Hot Leakage are based on.
  Hacker's guide, and User's guide
• Cacti A tool that generates area/timing/power/leakage models for various cache configurations.
  A graphical web interface to Cacti

Literature searching

• IEEExplore Access to IEEE's publications. Available through the University web proxy/cache only.
• ACM portal Access to ACM's publications and search other publishers' in computing. Available through the University web proxy/cache only.
• Google scholar Great for finding more recent papers which cite a key paper.
