Condor manages a large pool of machines and assigns users' computing jobs to machines which aren't currently being used, automatically moving the jobs elsewhere when a machine is needed by its owner.
For a good description of what Condor is and does, see the Condor home page, particularly the What is Condor? and Overview of Condor sections.
Condor is currently installed on a number of our DICE machines, notably in. At the moment it is running on staff desktops on an opt-in basis and in all student labs. Use is currently restricted to staff and postgraduate research students. If you're in one of these categories and you'd like to use Condor, put in a Support message asking for access. Please volunteer your DICE machine for membership of a Condor machine pool at the same time. Please note that there are issues with condor accessing files on afs filesystems and you should probably read about these before going any further.
We have a local Condor Wiki for passing on tips and information about Condor in Informatics. Please read and contribute!
You should check out the FAQ as well, particularly the "Issues running condor with AFS section".
If you're a Condor user, you probably want to read the manual. You can find it at http://www.cs.wisc.edu/condor/manual/ in a number of formats. Be sure to scroll down the page to the Release version 7.0.4 manual as that's the version we're using. Have a look especially at section 1 Overview and section 2 Users' Manual.
