Read me before using Rose

Source the configuration script before you run Rose. e.g.:
source /usr/local/bin/Rose98/releases/rose.4.5.8153/config.sh
rose &
(You could put this in a setup file of your own, but I don't recommend it because it should be a setup option, and when I get back I'll fix it so that it is -- some of the problems below may also be fixable by paying closer attention to it than I have so far!)
If you still have any windu processes running from using an OLD version of Rose over the summer or in SEOC1 (impossible, I think: we've had at least one power outage since then, but just for paranoia I'll mention it) kill them before trying to run rose again.
Do not attempt to run Netscape at the same time: it grabs too many colours and will make Rose behave very strangely (including, it seems, messing up how your diagrams come out when you save or print them).
You will get some warnings like
Wind/U Warning (270): Individual setting of locale environment variables unsupported (LC_CTYPE); set LANG instead.
they seem pretty harmless.... (It's the standard setup that sets these variables anyway, I think -- no-one is trying to get Rose to understand them.)
You may also get a warning about printer setup: the problem seems to be that Rose assumes you can install it knowing exactly what printer it's going to be printing to, which if true is bizarre. If you do encounter problems with printing, I recommend that you save your diagrams to a postscript file and print the postscript instead; this is more reliable.
If you choose help, say Yes to opening help even without a file, then choose Open from the File menu and select file
/usr/local/bin/Rose98/releases/rose.4.5.8153/help/roseu.hlp

Sorry for the inconvenience! The install procedure for Rose is, um, suboptimal, and I haven't had time to investigate how to fix these irritations. It does basically work!
