Introduction to Computational Linguistics (ICL)

This is the home page for Introduction to Computational Linguistics. Please check regularly for the online information available here.

This course provides an introduction to the basic theory and practice of computational approaches to natural language processing.

Topics include:

  • introduction to programming in Python;
  • tokenization;
  • part-of-speech tagging;
  • context-free grammars for natural language;
  • parsing techniques.

The course will be oriented towards hands-on experience of text processing techniques, using the NLTK-Lite library. NLTK is based on Python, and a brief introduction to Python will be provided at the start of the class, together with practical sessions.
