Information On Course Choices

The specialisms offered in Edinburgh are Life-Science Informatics and Net-Centric Informatics, in conjunction with Trento; and Net-Centric/Media Informatics, in conjunction with Aachen — while this is informally called "Net-Centric" for Edinburgh purposes, the Aachen component has a strong Media Informatics component. Note that EuMI students are admitted for a specific specialism and mobility scheme (i.e., sequence and combination of universities) and that this cannot be changed except with special permission from the EuMI course organiser. Note also that the specialisms advertised for other Edinburgh MSc degrees offered by Informatics are of no significance for EuMI students (except for IRR as described below).

In addition to IRR and IRP, you will have to take at least six additional courses each worth 5 ECTS in order to ensure that you gain a total of 50 ECTS. Of these six, three have to be taken from the list of compulsory courses for each specialism — these are printed in bold face below.

Your remaining courses should be chosen from the further specialism-related recommended choices in the tables below. Special permission may be granted to deviate from these requirements, but this is subject to approval by the course organiser and the EuMI consortium.

Courses printed in italics are level 9/10 courses, and your choice of these is constrained by the additional rule that at most 15 ECTS of your degree credits can be level 9/10 courses.

Finally, you are required to take one of Introduction to Java Programming or Logic Programming unless you already have previous programming experience.
