Final day

The final day consists of presentations, one per team, in the morning, a tournament in the afternoon and a prize-giving ceremony. There are marks assigned for the presentation (10%) and for the performance in the tournament (10%). The final day for 2017 will take place on Friday 7th April. Note that all students are expected to attend throughout the day.

Presentation

Each team will make a presentation about their robots and the process they have followed during development. The presentation will take place in G.07 in the Informatics Forum and the audience will consist of the SDP students and a judging panel. The judging panel is made up of a number of guests from industry along with the course organisers, the teaching assistants and Garry Ellard. In the past industry representatives have come from Accenture, Amazon, Cisco, Citi, Freescale, Google, IBM and Kal.

Your presentation should be informative and engaging. You may designate a small number of presenters but all of both groups should be available to answer questions about the components that they worked on. The presentation should cover the design of your robots, particularly innovative features, as well as the team/group organisation and communication processes. You may choose to make two separate presentations for the groups in your team or a single integrated presentation. The time allowed will be the same in either case.

Each team will be strictly limited to 15 minutes, including time for setup, questions and handover. You will be required to provide your slides by 10pm on Thursday 6th April. There will be an opportunity to rehearse your presentation on Thursday 6th April in IF G.07 and you are strongly advised to take advantage of that opportunity.

Flyer

To help the judging panel distinguish the presentations afterwards when assigning marks you should provide them with a simple colourful flyer highlighting the key features of your robot. This should be one sheet of A4, and may be printed on both sides, and folded if you wish. You are required to print these and bring 15 copies to the presentation to hand to the judging panel.

Tournament

The tournament will take place in the Forrest Hill lab, and will have the same format as the friendly matches in the second half of the semester (i.e. two robots per side on the pitch). Initial placement in the competition will depend on the performance at the seeding friendly on 22nd March. Time will be allocated for required calibration.

Assessment

After all the presentations are completed the judging panel will decide on a mark for each group out of 100. Since the robots are judged elsewhere, these marks will be for the quality of the presentation, the flyer and question answering. Key criteria will be

The tournament performance will also be marked out of 100 by the judging panel, at the end of the tournament. Marks will be allocated according to the performance of each robot in the matches, but also the sportmanship of the (human) participants.

Many of the industrial members of the judging panel are also graduate recruiters. This is one of the big showcase events of the year for the School when we get the opportunity to demonstrate our talented undergraduates to their potential future employers. Please remember this throughout the day and aim to make a good impression both for yourself, and for the School more generally.
