MLPR tutorials, Autumn 2018

For those sitting the course for credit, the tutorials are compulsory. You meet with a tutor in a group to discuss the week’s exercises, and/or anything else the group decides to cover. You should do the exercise sheet before your tutorial! If you have any difficulties, that is fine. Come to the tutorial being able to explain where you got stuck. Even better, discuss with others in the class first, and be able to explain what a few of you think. Your tutorial group won't necessarily discuss everything on the sheet: full answers will be made available, so the point isn't to rush through all the answers.

Tutorials will start in week 3, the week 2–6 October.

Tutorial groups are being assigned by the ITO. You should have heard from them already. But if you aren't registered to take the class for credit (yet), you won't have done. Please contact the ITO with any queries.

If you genuinely can't make a group one week for a good reason, go to another one. Please don't change groups without good reason, or they'll get imbalanced. If you can't make a tutorial, please let your assigned tutor know with a one or two line email.

Those auditing the class as "class only" aren’t entitled to attend tutorials, but are still advised to do the exercises.

Tutorial Questions

There will be 7 tutorials. The final one is usually in week 9 (12–16 November).

They will be similar to last year's sheets.

The tutorial questions are designed to make you think and discuss things. Work with other people before your tutorial, and come to your tutorial ready to talk. Many of the questions are more involved and open-ended than exam questions. That said, an exam questions could be quite similar or based on a tutorial question, with the assumption you’ve done the tutorial question, and afterwards worked carefully through the answers.
