Feedback to students
All feedback on this course, until the final exam, is
formative as opposed
to summative. That is, it aims to help you improve your understanding, and
is not used in determining your final mark on the course. In this course, you
should feel able to discuss your work with anyone, and work in groups
whenever it seems appropriate to you, without worrying about whether you
have offended against a plagiarism rule.
The main ways in which you will get feedback on how you are doing are:
- Doing the lab exercises. The provided automated JUnit tests will instantaneously let you know when you have met the criteria for each exercise. If you get a complier error, this is also feedback that there is an error in your code.
- Attending your scheduled labs and talking to the demonstrator there.
For example, if you have trouble getting your code to compile or to pass
the tests, the demonstrator can help. Your fellow students may be able to,
too.
- Attending tutorials, and discussing your progress through the lab
exercises and your Learning Plan. Your tutor will give you feedback on your
progress and help you to solve any difficulties. You may wish to include in
your Learning Plan some collaboration with other students, in which case
you can give one another feedback on your work, too.
- Attending the mock programming exam, and paying close attention to the
report you receive on your performance in it.
