Scottish Vision Group (SVG)

06 - 08 April 2006

Aberdeen

Scottish Vision Group includes member of scientific community involved in researching various aspects of visual processing in Universities in Scotland. Vision research has a long history in Scotland and many previous renowned scientists have been inspired by the landscape (and Whisky) notably, David Brewster, James Clerk Maxwell, Alexander Crum Brown, Kenneth Craik and Fergus Campbell.

Today, across Scotland, vision scientists carry out leading international research in areas of perception, visual psychophysics, computational vision, visual processing in clinical populations and visual cognition.

The annual SVG conference was established in 2001 to provide a forum for debate and exchange of ideas in all aspects of visual science. It is attended by established investigators as well as post-graduates in the early stages of their career both from Scotland and from other European institutions. The format of the meetings includes presentations of the latest research findings followed by discussions, with emphasis on informal and in-depth debate on the presented material.

The plenary speakers for the annual meeting are leading experts in their research field and in the previous years include: Roger Watt (2001), Nick Wade (2002), Frans Verstraten and Julie Harris (2003), Alan Johnston (2004) John Findlay and Hiroshi Ono (2005).

2006 SVG conference will be held in King's College, Aberdeen on 6-8th April. It is envisaged that the meeting will continue the format of previous years (two half-days and one full day), with active participation of researchers and a series of oral presentations and discussions. The plenary speaker, will be Prof. David Milner (University of Durham) who will discuss the Neuropsychology of Vision.
