CDI1: Assignment 1

How would you do it differently?

We are interested in developing dialogue systems that would let people have conversations with some of the things that will inhabit the internet of things. This may require us to re-think some of the features of dialogue systems that are typically taken for granted.

Your task in Assignment 1:
  1. Consider the design guidelines - and previous work - on interaction with things discussed in the lectures so far.
  2. Write a proposal describing how you would re-design a standard dialogue system to more adequately support interaction with a particular type of thing.
  3. Your proposal should be no more than 3,000 words in length. It should include references to relevant literature; design sketches; and a plan indicating how you would evaluate your new design, if it were implemented.
