Instructions for Scanning with an MFD
Scanning Your Document
Update: You can now scan to email, as well as via the shared
file area below. See the Scan to email
section below.
The scans are placed in a public space (you should not be scanning
documents containing personal data), please delete them after you
have copied them to your own filesystem. Scans older than 1 hour will
automatically be deleted.
By default scans are in tiff format if the document scanned is
black and white or PDF if colour.
- Put your document in the feeder face up. (If A4)
- Put other size documents on the glass and you will be asked to select a size.
- Press "Send".
- Select "One Touch".
- Select "scans".
- Select "File Format" if you want to change format.
- Select format required.
- Press "Start".

- Go to the Location menu, select "open location" on that

the scans space).
On an MDP Machine.
- From an Explorer Window select Tools.
- Select Map Network Drive.
- Select drive letter.
- Folder is \\get.scans.inf.ed.ac.uk\pubscans
Scan to email
An alternative to scanning to the shared area, is to send the
scanned image/document to an email address. This doesn't overcome the
privacy issues, as if you get the email address wrong, someone else
could end up seeing the scan.
There is also a 10MB file limit for email messages, so large scans
need to be broken up into multiple emails.
- From the main screen press the "Send" button on the top edge of
the screen.
- Press the "E-mail" button near the middle of the screen.
- Carefully enter your email address using the on screen keyboard
and press "OK".
- Select "File Format" if you want a specific file format, rather
than letting the scanner choose.
- Scan your document by pressing the big green "Start" button.
- Answer/check the scan dialog box if prompted and press "Done".
- The scan will be sent to the email address you specified.
