Virtual Learning Environments

The University uses Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) for many of its courses, both local to Edinburgh and as part of its distance learning programmes.

Learn 9 from Blackboard Inc. is the University's centrally-supported Virtual Learning Environment. This replaces the previous WebCT system. Some schools use Learn extensively, while most Informatics courses rely on their own websites, wikis, blogs and discussion groups. Teaching material held on Learn 9 is accessible only to students currently registered on the course and cannot be linked-to externally. You can find out more from the Information Services pages about Learn.
Moodle is the centrally-supported VLE for online distance learning programmes in the University. You can find out more from the Information Services pages about Moodle.
