(Manual Handling of Loads) of the University Health and Safety Policy
at: http://www.safety.ed.ac.uk/policy/part2/part2.shtm
Persons with existing or previous muscular/skeletal injuries and expectant mothers must not undertake lifting operations. The lifting operation to be carried out by 2 persons when required. Persons who undertake this activity should be trained in manual handling techniques.* The computer should be packed in its box / packing case if possible. Operatives must ensure that the route to be taken is free of obstructions/tripping hazards. All doors should be opened and wedged if necessary. While moving computers between locations it may be beneficial to stop for brief rests. Once the move is complete, all wedges should be removed and all doors properly closed. It is recommended to read the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) information Getting to grips with manual handling. This can be found at: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg143.pdf Note:
To arrange the manual handling training please contact Joanna Treichel (Joanna.Treichel@ed.ac.uk) |
