About Inspace

virtual inspace

Inspace is a new public engagement gallery facility on the ground floor of the Informatics Forum, where we explore the cultural significance of informatics.

The gallery comprises a 300 sq metre space which can transform from gallery, to workshop or lecture space. Street-facing windows provide a prominent 'shop window' to the Forum, making activities inside available to passers-by via interactive technology. Inspace is fast becoming an important venue for increasing engagement with students of all ages through visits, exhibitions and related events such as the Edinburgh International Science Festival and the SciFun Roadshow.

Inside Inspace, creative explorations of the interface between science, humanities, medicine and art are exhibited alongside a rolling programme of artworks developed through the artist in residence programme and student involvement. These include exhibitions, education events, hands on science engagement activities and a programme which fits into the Edinburgh arts and science calendar.

Through Inspace we aim to increase public awareness and understanding of the role of computation in modern biology, security, learning and other areas of life and provide a focal point for visitors, researchers and the general public to learn more about research in Informatics and the many practical uses of this research. We also communicate concepts developed from research and interactions between Informatics and other disciplines from the arts to the life sciences.
