Information for current:

Informatics Outreach

The University of Edinburgh views Informatics as a discipline central to a new enlightenment in scholarship and learning, and critical to the future development of science, technology and society. In the age of information, computing technology is changing the ways we work and play. Informatics is changing the way we think.

Our mission is the advancement and dissemination of knowledge and understanding.

Our outreach programmes promote exploitation, public understanding, and informed debate — through projects and initiatives that support engagement with industry and society:

engagement
enhancing understanding and knowledge of informatics — and its past, present and future impacts on society — by stimulating interest, and making information accessible
dialogue
stimulating informed debate to raise awareness and understanding of informatics and its achievements and the social opportunities and challenges this affords
exploitation
promoting informed application of knowledge and understanding, to the benefit of science and society
reflection
informing the School's strategy and policy in relation to public feedback, and the needs, interests and concerns of society.
