Text?Informatics PhD Student Awarded Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship

Jochen Leidner, PhD student in the School of Informatics, has been awarded a prestigious Enterprise Fellowship by the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE). The co-founder of the Edinburgh-based software company Linguit Ltd. is heading a team of researchers who have been developing a new kind of Internet search engine that makes information access from mobile phones easier and more precise.

"I'm very honoured by the award, and would like to thank all the people who have been so helpful working in the background. Edinburgh's School of Informatics is a wonderful R&D environment in a similarly wonderful location."

The awardee will continue to be working with the School of Informatics' world-renowned Language Technology Group (LTG), hosted by Professor Ewan Klein, where he will be commercialising the technology.

This is the second prize awarded to Jochen during his PhD study. In 2004 he was awarded a SIGIR Doctoral Consortium Award for Outstanding Technical Contribution.
