Components

Provisional Abstract

"Component" is a current buzzword in both software and hardware, and in both industry and academia. This talk will give an overview of the state of the art and of the problems which have been solved. The remaining problems are concerned with a wide range of informatics issues; I'll discuss some of them and mention some of the places where Edinburgh research is relevant. A particular interest of mine at present is the similarities and differences between component based development of software and of hardware: traditionally, software and hardware have been studied by different communities, but increasingly they present similar problems.
