Week 1 Lecture Arrangements for 2009/10

NO HONS/MSc LECTURES UNTIL THURSDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 2009

In order to avoid any confusion about when your Informatics lectures begin, please make sure that you have read (and understood) this page. Semester 1 officially begins on Tuesday 22nd Sept, although the School will be running a series of introductory events, before beginning UG3, UG4 and MSc teaching on Thursday 24th Sept.

3rd Year Students (and Courses)

Introduction to UG3: There will be a short UG3 introductory lecture at 0930hrs on Tuesday 22nd Sept in IF G.07.

Course Introductory Sessions: The School will also be offering a series of level 9, 10 and 11 introductory course presentations on Tue 22nd and Wed 23rd, to assist with course choices. All Informatics UG3 students are invited to attend these presentations, then follow the course timetable from 9.00am on Thursday 24th Sept onwards.

UG3 Careers Talk [Getting Experience & Planning Ahead]: All UG3 students are invited to attend this presentation, from 1.30pm on Tuesday 22nd September in the Appleton Tower Level 3 Open Area. Click here for further information.

Undergraduate Prizegiving: All UG3 and UG4 students are invited to attend the Undergraduate Prizegiving at 4.00pm on Tue 22nd Sept, in Mini Forum 2, 4th Floor, The Forum. Refreshments will be served. Prize sponsors include Barclays Capital, British Computer Society (BCS), Citigroup, Freescale, Google and Real Time Engineering.
Meet the Graduates: Meet the Graduates: At 12.30pm on Wed 23rd Sept, the Careers Service are hosting a 'Meet the Graduates' event, giving you an opportunity to quiz a variety of Informatics graduates about their career routes; what they do, how they got there, typical projects and any tips they can offer. Additionally, at 2pm, a UG3 'Applications and Interviews’ seminar will help you ensure that you are able to present yourself effectively to potential employers when applying for work placements/internships and future graduate jobs.Additionally a UG3 'Reviewing Your Career' seminar will help you to keep your career plans on track . All UG3 students are encouraged to attend this event, taking place in the Informatics Forum, lunch will be provided. Further information is available here.

4th Year Students (and Courses)

Course Introductory Sessions: The School will also be offering a series of level 9, 10 and 11 introductory course presentations on Tue 22nd and Wed 23rd, to assist with course choices. All Informatics UG4 students are invited to attend these presentations, then follow the course timetable from 9.00am on Thursday 24th Sept onwards. Note that the Informatics level 11 courses (which don't have a level 10 version) will be introduced to MSc students from 11.00am on Friday 18th Sept. All UG4 students are invited to attend these MSc course presentations.

MSc Students (and Courses)

Introduction to MSc: Please follow the induction timetable for events during 14th-18th Sept, including the MSc course presentations taking place from 11.00am on Friday 18th Sept. MSc students are welcome to attend the UG course introductions, before following the course timetable from 9.00am on Thursday 24th Sept onwards.

It is also strongly recommended that all MSc students attend the 'Informatics Research Review: Introduction and Using the Library Service' lecture, to be held on Wednesday 30th September, 2.00pm in AT LT4.

General Information for all Students
Language at Edinburgh - a bi-monthly opportunity for members of the University interested in language to showcase their research and discuss ideas and socialise with researchers in other fields. Details of their next lunch are available here.
