Course: Computer Security

Type:
Teaching Assistant

Time in Year:
Course runs in Semester 2, some preparation in Sem 1 needed.

Number of Posts:
1 (possibly 2)

Description:

Teaching Assistant for Computer Security required primarily to help during Semester 1 devise/revise and maintain a new practical element for the course, to be based on the Android mobile platform, to build a mobile app connecting to a secure web server. An Android mobile phone will be made available to help with this, although the exercise devised must be useable without. During Semester 2 the TA will be required to support the practical while it runs.

Knowledge of Java (ideally Android) and secure web programming is a strong advantage, although someone who is keen and quick to learn, partly in their own time, would be considered too.

See course web page for details of previous assignments and to understand the background required (http://www.inf.ed.ac.uk/teaching/courses/cs/).  There is also an opportunity also to assist in giving a small number of tutorials during the course. Tutorials are on worked examples and *not* directly related to the practical exercises. This is a separate job but may be taken by the same TA if appropriate/desired.

This post is paid at grade UE06, currently upwards of £12.50/hr.  Double time for tutoring.

Total Hours:  up to 50 hours (demo rate), 2-6 hours (tutoring)
