used
as the underlying programming language when appropriate. Topics
covered include RPC, CORBA, RMI, distributed coordination, failure
and
fault tolerance and mobile agents. For more details see the web
page
http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/teaching/cs4/distsys/module-page.html
Tutors are required for tutorials in alternate weeks, starting week
3,
and to assist with marking the two practicals which will have
deadlines in week 6 and week 10 of Term 2. It is anticipated
that
each tutor will take two tutorial groups. The first practical
will
be based on CORBA, the second on algorithms for distributed
agreement. Both will be Java based so a good knowledge of Java
is
essential and knowledge of CORBA would be advantageous.
Total Hours/Hours per week: 50 hours marking in total; 2 contact hours
a week tutoring in odd numbered weeks and 2 office hours a week in
even numbered weeks (16 hours total).
